Back from Japan

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 7, 2010, 6:25 AM
Finally went on my holiday to Japan and it was amazing!  Picked up illust studio while I was there.  It's a lot like Manga Studio but with the best toolset for colouring that I've yet come across!  Totally beats doing it in Photoshop.

The newest deviation is my contest entry for the Fantasy Dream Paradise group.  I really liked the idea of it because it's called the 'Song Inspire' contest where you pick a song and draw something based on it.  I chose 'Gohan wa Okazu' which is easily the worst song ever used on K-On (the anime) but it's a lot of fun and makes for a great episode!  I just imagined the characters practicing before a gig but all with rice and various other foods on hand.

Regarding illust studio, it's not available in the UK or the US yet which is a shame but I grabbed it for 6900 yen in akihabara and found a fantastic translation tool by Kaetemi called Majikkuwando at [link] of the functions are still a little confusing and there's no translation of the manual into english yet but I'm planning on doing a full illust studio review/tutorial soon :)

That's pretty much it for now.  Plenty of pics and posts from my Japan trip are online at [link].

Enjoy!

  • Mood: Wow!
  • Listening to: Gohan wa Okazu
  • Watching: K-ON season 1 (again)
  • Eating: Sushi from waitrose
  • Drinking: instant coffee

Aw..I missed Japan, went there in June for a week...it was too much fun, some of the pics are in my deviation and more can be found at: [link]
I saw IllustStudio in Tokyu Hands as well...but I thought SAI and CS3 for me is enough XD

I have the demo of SAI but I can't decide if I like the lineart tool or not. it certainly makes doing lineart a faster process than illust studio. IS uses bezier curves which take bloody ages to get right and aren't as easy to edit later like SAI... But IS is really awesome for colouring!

I'm going back to Japan in november! want me to take pictures of anything for you?

I thought Kamata is in Kanagawa? Or at least southwest part of Tokyo

I'm not sure if Kamata is technically in Kanagawa but it's definitely closer to the Tokyo Bay area where I stayed last time i was in Japan. I think getting into central tokyo should be quite easy :)

Ah..just checked...it's in the Ota-ku just near the edge of Tokyo/Kanagawa boundary...Never been down there before, you should go check out Umeyashiki shopping street, I heard the shopping street scene in FSN is based on that place (located near Kamata, Keikyu has a station called "Umeyashiki": [link]
